If the public has missed the gruesome facts that jails and prisons are germ hotbeds, and people are dying, then they must not be reading/listening to even main stream news. Until now, I think, regular citizens have ignored prison conditions. “They deserve it.” and “Do the crime, do the time.” But now?
If you have a conscience at all, a drop of humanity, you have to face it: our prisons are barbaric, and people inside are dying because we do nothing, ignore it, hide from it.
But we pay taxes to support theses systems, the Prison Industrial Complex. Maybe if listening to your conscience is too hard, listen to your wallet. These inmates, once infected, will cost your city, county, state and finally our nation. How can our hospital system absorb all the people who will need more help than those “aide practitioners” can offer.
Stuck in cement cages with bars that allow breath/germs to float throughout the housing units, these are our most vulnerable, outside of nursing homes. And yet–too many of these people are geriatric themselves, doubling the trouble.
We need brave, heroic pubic servants; we do not need hysterical sheriffs screaming that murderers and rapists are being let loose. Many of these geriatric inmates are in wheelchairs, on drip tubes, wear Depends. Some do not even remember their crime.
But our crime? Our nation’s lack of caring.
