Gov. Brown will appeal his latest loss before a federal judge this week, where he asked that 17 years of judicial oversight end.
It’s been 23 years, already. A class-action lawsuit on behalf of California’s mentally ill prisoners has been into court, again, with Gov. Brown losing, again. But he plans to fight on to the Supreme Court where, 2 years ago, the S.Ct. found California’s system “deliberately indifferent” to the needs of the 32,000 mentally ill inmates. Indeed, the S. Ct. found the California prison system to hand out “cruel and unusual punishment” instead of help. Gov. Brown will appeal his latest loss before a federal judge this week, where he asked that 17 years of judicial oversight end. Imagine how horrible the system would become without even minimal oversight?
