We are talking common sense here: a private grant is helping inmates in Ithica, N.Y. take college courses. The 1996 loss of federal Pell grants has meant that most inmates can’t improve their lives with education, but Cornell University is sending the professors, and the grant helps pay expenses. Since 95% of inmates rejoin society, shouldn’t all prisons help educate their inmates?
